United States internet searches for “infertility” following COVID-19 vaccine misinformation
Following a December 2020 petition to withhold emergency use authorization of the BNT162b2 messenger ribonucleic acid vaccine for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) manufactured by BioNTech and Pfizer, misinformation claiming that COVID-19 vaccines cause female infertility began circulating on social media. The authors evaluated Google Trends data to quantify the potential influence that misinformation may have had on public perception and medical decision-making among pregnant patients or those seeking to become pregnant.

Untangling the roots of the West Virginia opioid crisis: relationships in adolescent pregnancy, drug misuse, and future outcomes
West Virginia (WV) is afflicted by high rates of teenage pregnancy and births, opioid usage during pregnancy, and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome births. To determine whether there is an association between teenage pregnancy and negative health outcomes, including opioid misuse, among adolescent girls in WV, the authors analyzed aggregate data at the county level from the WV Department of Health and Human Resources (WVDHHR).

Characterizing the use of osteopathic manipulative medicine in the obstetric population by trimester and indications for use
Osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) has been shown to successfully alleviate some pregnancy-related pain, but most published data focuses on the 3rd trimester and postpartum period or musculoskeletal indications. In this article, the authors report the results from 73 obstetrical providers who practice in multiple types of women’s healthcare facilities in Southern and Central Maine and who were surveyed about their OMM use, including the frequency by trimester and by clinical indication.

The Use of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine in the Management of Recurrent Mastitis
In this case report with an accompanying technique video, the authors discuss a 34 year old woman who presented after having 5 cases of mastitis in 6 months that were managed with multiple courses of antibiotics. The patient was successfully treated with osteopathic manipulative treatment to the affected breast in 2 sessions and taught to perform self myofascial release at home.

Characteristics and Management of Pregnant Patients From a Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Clinic
The authors retrospectively reviewed the electronic health records of 194 pregnant patients who received osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) at a specialty outpatient clinic and characterized their demographic markers as well as their presenting conditions, with the purpose of helping clinicians to better understand the role of OMM as an obstetric adjunctive treatment approach and to identify conditions warranting investigation in future outcome studies.
